Kathak performance by Manjari Kiran.

Kathak performance presented by Manjari Kiran at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur on the eve of 5th September 2013. It was a Nice Performance and Crowd loved it. Kathak is one of the eight forms of Indian classical dances, originated from Northern India. This Dance is all about story telling and it was started by the story tellers of Old times. Sanskrit word for Stort is “Katha” and Story teller or narrator is known as “Kathanak” so by combining these two words the “Kathak” Came to life.

Manjiri Kiran is an internationally acclaimed and nationally acknowledged, one of the most accomplished Kathak dancers of her generation. During the performances, the creative artist within her comes to the fore, enchanting the audience with a rare command over the fundamentals of Kathak. Introduced to Kathak at a tender age, she is trained by the great maestro, Guru Dr. Rohini Bhate- Jathar. She has also been honing her skills under the guidance of Pt. Birju Maharaj at frequent intervals. Credit for her initial training goes to Smt. Sanjeevani Kulkarni and Ustad Haider Sheikh. Her unique and distinctive ability to harmoniously synchronize the aesthetics, rhythm, essence of music and sense of time & space, has inspired her peers and masses alike. Manjiri’s creative ability to understand and grasp the nuances of her dance form, her choreography and dedication to Kathak has manifested itself in form of acclaim - not only, at her work places i.e. Nasik, Pune and now Jaipur but, also at several cultural venues and festivals around the world. She has been attempting and succeeding, in expanding the horizons of the traditional form of Kathak by presenting her creative art, as a lead dancer in Dr. Rohini Bhate- Jathar’s group choreographies like Udgar, Time, Usha-Sukta, Pawas, Taal Mala etc. at places like Lucknow, New Delhi, Bangalore, Mysore, Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad etc. and abroad also. The same dream and attempt, now gets invigorated in form of her presentations as a solo dancer of great repute, in her own capacity. Manjiri acquired the degree of “Nritya Alankar” with first division from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and also has a post-graduate degree in Sociology from Pune University. Manjiri is an approved artist by Doordarshan. She has also acquired a diploma in Kathak from Nritya Bharati Kathak Dance Academy – Pune.
