The Famous Elephant Festival 2013 was nothing less than a Disaster I would say disaster is also a small word. Elephant Festival Jaipur was the World Famous and one of the most fun filled festival of Jaipur. Till now every year it used to happen with lot of activities and fun. Indian and Foreign both Tourists used to enjoy it like anything. This year also thousands of Tourists from all around the world were in Jaipur to witness and Enjoy Elephant Festival but little did they knew.
Due to the Pressure of animal rights activists and the organizations like PETA ( People for Ethical Treatment to Animals ) Department of Rajasthan Tourism has taken out all the animals from the Elephant Festival and even the Elephants. They had even changed the name of Festival to Holi Festival, basically they had broken a 35 year old Elephant Festival Tradition. A festival with No Animals.
The Problem is not just that – that they had took out all the animals of the festival but they had not filled the empty space with anything. Till now The festival begins with the Procession of Elephants, Camels, Horses and followed by folk dancers and other entertainers. But because there were No animals it was just left with few Folk Dancers and Entertainers, I was there and so were many Tourists, to my Horror the Procession was finished before it start. There were few Traditional activities like Matka Race, Turban Tying Competition, Tug of War, Rajasthani Folk Performances and Holi Fireworks done after that but till that time most of us all had lost the interest and maximum of Tourists had left the Venue.
I Hope that Next Year Department of Rajasthan Tourism will not Going to Disappoint us in this way.
Below are the pics of Last year Festival and what I Posted at That time.
Elephant Festival 2012
|Beautifully decorated Elephant|
The Elephant Festival Jaipur is held on the day of Holika Dahan. The festival begins with the Procession of Elephants, Camels, Horses and followed by folk dancers and other entertainers.
Many Beautifully decorated Elephants assembled there for the Royal Procession, Activities like Elephant Race, Elephant Tug of war with People, Elephant Polo and playing Holi (Playing with the Colors) on Elephants are the special attraction of the festival. Few Activities like Matka Race, Turban Tying Competition, Tug of War, Rajasthani Folk Performances, Prize Distribution and Holi Fireworks keep on happening inbetween to fill the gaps.
All I will say is it’s a Must to Attend Festival, Highly Recommended.
